Heather Laxon

I live in Auckland and am the Charge Nurse Manager at the Kidz First Centre for Youth Health. Prior to that, I was a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Youth Health in the School Based Youth Health Programme, which essentially meant I supported nurses working in Secondary Schools as nurses, and had input into youth health service development.

Prior to that role, I spent 10 years working as a school nurse in a low decile high school in South Auckland. I am passionate about ensuring that our rangatahi have access to appropriate youth-friendly, equitable health care. It is probably one of the things I miss most about my current role is I don’t have much interface with young people but I am supporting the people who are having that interface growing the service and service development. I am also the co-president of the Auckland School Nurses Group and have a small private supervision practice. I have an interest in ensuring that school nurses can access appropriate support and professional supervision.
