I am living in Auckland and I work at Counties Manukau, I’m a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Youth Health in the School Based Youth Health Programme. It essentially means that I support nurses working in Secondary Schools as nurses, My role involves supporting nurses working in Youth School Based Health Clinics in South Auckland and having input into youth health service development. Prior to my current role, I spent 10 years working as a school nurse in a low decile high school in South Auckland. I am passionate about ensuring that our rangatahi have access to appropriate youth-friendly, equitable health care. It is probably one of the things I miss most about my current role is I don’t have much interface with young people but I am supporting the people who are having that interface growing the service and service development. I am also the co-president of the Auckland School Nurses Group and have a small private supervision practice. I have an interest in ensuring that school nurses can access appropriate support and professional supervision.
